Obscure: The Aftermath has you taking control of a wide cast of cliché "school" heroes. Each has their own special abilities for the many puzzles that you will encounter throughout the game. Like the nerdy Asian girl who can hack computer systems, the strong man who can move heavy objects, the acrobatic emo guy, or the ditsy blond who can, uncharacteristically, decipher codes and otherwise overlooked evidence.

This provides the most enjoyable feature of Aftermath. The need to use the right character at the right time provides a certain layer of depth to otherwise shallow, "whack the monsters", gameplay. Puzzles are clever and fun to progress through, but fighting your way to each one can be irritating.

Of course the Asian girl is the hacker.

Combat is wonky, and fending off your greatest enemy, the camera, is a losing battle. It swings wide at the slightest touch. When the camera isn't flying around like it took one too many hits of the flower juice, it attempts to auto-focus on the most important target. This generally results in a slam of your face into the nearest wall. An auto-aim feature cleans it up a little, but the sections of melee combat can still be a pain.

Aftermath does improve in some areas. The lighting and visuals are noticeably better, though still not breathtaking, even by Playstation 2 standards. Games like God of War 2, and Resident Evil 4, have shown us just what the previous generation can put out. Sadly, Obscure: The Aftermath doesn't even come close to those titles in the visual department. Flat and muddy textures dot the landscape and objects throughout the world. Characters have very lame and basic animations that, at times, are downright funny.
