Resident Evil 4

Actions such as reloading and picking up items can be accomplished with a simple shake of the Wii Remote, but the A button works just as well. Similarly, you can draw out your knife and perform a slash by either pressing the A button or simply by making a slashing motion with the Wii Remote. You can plug in a Classic Controller or Gamecube controller and play the game as it was originally released, but I imagine that is mostly there for posterity; once you've played with the Wii controls, you won't want to go back to aiming with an analog stick.

Graphically, nothing has changed from previous incarnations of Resident Evil 4. RE4: Wii Edition uses the original GameCube models, rather than the toned-down visuals of the PS2 version, and the graphics still hold up surprisingly well. The game looks just as good, if not better, than the majority of popular Wii titles currently available. This serves both as a testament to the folks at Capcom for making a game two years ago that can still hold up today and as a critique of the dissapointing graphics of the current crop of Wii games. RE4: Wii Edition also supports true 16:9 widescreen and 480p, features present in the PS2 version but not the GameCube release.

What you are really getting with Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is the more or less definitive version of RE 4. For the budget price of $30, you get the original game, the PS2 improvements, the better GameCube graphics with true widescreen and progressive scan, and optional Wii controls that improve the game tenfold.

Resident Evil 4 was inarguably one of the finest gaming experiences of the past generation of consoles, and I would say is certainly worth $30 for anyone who never played it and isn't completely averse to the idea of a horror action game. For those who played RE 4 the first time around, $30 is a small price to pay for what is sure to be the penultimate release of the title. In my mind, the stellar Wii motion controls alone are worth revisiting this gem of a game.

Highs
Immersive new Wii Remote controls make it feel like an entirely new game; budget price of $30; includes PS2 extras; better GameCube graphics with 480p and "true" widescreen.

Lows
If you've already played it, nothing's really changed other than the controls (but oh, what a difference they make!); graphics are more or less the same as on the GameCube.

Final Verdict
RE4: Wii Edition is the penultimate release of a fantastic game. Anyone who has not played the original should highly consider at least giving it a chance, and those who have already played RE4 may find that it is well worth the $30 for everything this remake has to offer.
