Metal Gear Portable Ops

Same old Snake, totally new Metal Gear. True fans will not be disappointed with this newest addition.

I'm not so sure how the rest of the gaming community feels when it comes to the PSP, but some of us were getting frustrated with the lack of quality titles out there as well as being tricked into playing a Metal Gear card game. Despite this, I feel that Konami cannot be blamed for trying to work with the hardware restrictions of the PSP while trying to provide us with the same kind of content and storylines we have come to expect with the MGS franchise.

It's not what you think... I swear!

The latest addition in the MGS lineup for the PSP is Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. The story integrates the previous story from Snake Eater and works up a transition into the upcoming title MGS4. Alarmingly Naked Snake awakes in a prison cell, snatched up from his early retirement and transported to a Columbian peninsula which is under lock and key by a lunatic named Gene. This all molds into a classic "one man saves the world" scenario that we have grown to expect and love with the Metal Gear games.

With the new third person view, stalking your prey becomes as natural as... hiding behind a dumpster watching a guy in a mask.

Unlike previous games with the same title, there are no cards, no turn-based nonsense, and much less annoying CODEC chatter that has been one of the most annoying aspects of all of these games. How many times have we MGS fans sat through endless hours of CODEC chat, hearing anything from important mission information all the way down to pointless jabber about catching fireflies in the Swiss Alps while vacationing as a child... never skipping it because you never know when they will drop a bomb shell of information on you. Kiss that junk goodbye, the CODEC has been streamlined and information coming down it is much more relevant to the mission at hand.
