What this does in effect is make the game infinitely more accessible. Imagining that Guerilla could be a real world situation would do players well. As a single person using guerilla tactics, careful planning and strategy is required on top of a steady trigger finger and good aim. Consider this: if a mission requires capturing an enemy down a tight corridor, there are many ways to accomplish this in a real life situation. Cutting off any possible escape routes is a feasible option. So it’s possible here. Just take out a bridge on the path and force the enemy to go another way or stop completely.

That motto, that if it works in the real world it works in Guerilla, has held true in my playtest. It’s the most realistic gameplay I’ve seen to date, not because of what players can or can’t do, but because of how players can interact with the environments.
Guerilla also features a morale system, where local miners will have feelings towards the player based on whatever actions they make. If you save civilians from military attacks, news will spread. If you run over them, word spreads and when search parties go looking for you, civilians won’t hesitate to point you out. And if you make such a good impression on them that you’re praised, they may take up arms and help you, where if player’s so choose they can better arm those civilians into a well crafted militia.

Multiplayer arrives with the standard gameplay modes (deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag) and follows up with two new game modes: siege and damage control. Siege is where two teams must work to control buildings or walls are or aren’t destroyed (one team protects and rebuilds, the other attacks). Damage control is where one team plays to destroy areas and buildings while the other must defend them.

Red Faction: Guerilla has 40+ zones of gameplay and three types of zones, including typical martian red, terraform green and a more canyon based set of zones. Each of the zones is fairly large and each contains different missions that players can undertake, though most are mini missions. Only 22 story-related missions exist. To be released as a public beta on or around the 25th, this new Red Faction title is looking very good and we expect to see much more of it in the news.
