Nintendo Officially Announces New DS

The 'DSi' will feature a larger screen and a built-in camera.


In place of attending this year's Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo just finished presenting its annual Fall Press Conference in Japan. Among the to announcements to come out of the conference was confirmation of an new Nintendo DS.

Known as the DSi, this new iteration of the popular handheld console will boast a larger screen (3.25 compared to the Lite's 3.0”) a built-in 0.3-megapixel camera, and an SD card slot in place of the GBA cartridge slot, which will be absent.

A digital download store known as the DSi shop will accompany the console's launch, allowing users to download titles known collectively as 'DSiWare' for free, 200 Points, 500 Points, or 800 Points.

The DSi is currently slated for release in Japan on November 1, where it will be available for around ¥18,900 (USD $180). A European launch is expected to follow next Spring.
